Flat Roof Legislation Compliance
Anderson Roofing are specialists in all aspects of flat roofing and we have the knowledge and expertise to provide guidance and ensure that your new flat roof complies with local government legislation.
Since April 2006 when the Government of England and Wales implemented new changes to the 'Building Regulations Approved Document L (Conservation of fuel and power)', it has been a legal requirement to correctly insulate all new flat roofs.
These legislative revisions were brought in to comply with the EU - Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), whose key goals are to reduce energy consumption and eliminate wastage across the European Union. As 40% of all energy consumed is in buildings, the EPBD has introduced legislation to assure less energy is consumed or lost.
These regulations can have a significant effect on both homeowners and roofing contractors, with a poorly executed flat roofing project, potentially having a negative effect on the home's future sale value. Therefore, it is important to choose a professional roofing company such as Anderson Roofing, who have the knowledge and can provide all the correct advice, to give you peace of mind that your flat roof will be fitted to the highest standards and fully comply to the latest roofing legislation.
Flat Roof Insulation Types
When constructing a compliant flat roof with insulation, there are two main types of design, 'Cold Deck' and 'Warm Deck'.
The Cold Deck construction is the most common, but can be the least efficient method of thermal insulation, which can also be prone to condensation problems within the roof void, which will need to be ventilated to prevent such issues.
The Warm Deck construction is the most modern flat roof insulation design method. This is the most energy efficient thermal insulation design and is recommended to be used where possible. The main benefits of this method are alleviation of condensation problems in the roof void and compliance with the most recent building regulations.
